Straight from our brass (and silver) instrument repair shop, our USED horns are brought back to life…All major dents are removed, joints re-soldered (if needed), patches repaired (if necessary) and the slides reworked. Our horns may be buffed, but all are hand polished to a good shine and are in good playable condition. For the collector who is looking for an instrument; we try to keep the original parts whenever possible; if the playability is good, we feel it should be left to the buyer’s discretion to replace parts as desired. We are proud to offer this refurbished instrument for sale. We have tried to describe it as it is, and have shown what we can in the pictures allowed. We are happy to answer any questions asked. #95/2016Up for sale is a Silver-plated 1917/1924 York and Sons Professional Military Tenor Trombone made in Grand Rapids Mich. There are two serial #’s on the horn. The serial # on the bell is 488xx and dates to 1917; the serial number on the slide is 75xxx and dates to 1924. Also on the slide is: York & Sons and the letter “M” for medium bore. The bell is beautifully engraved and has a polished silver rim with an engraved border. The engraving is the following: PROFESSIONAL made by J.W. York and Sons Grand Rapids, Mich. The horn also has the distinction of the additional engraved letters near the rim-U.S.Q.M.C., which usually can be deciphered as U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. The rest of the bell is satin silver. The slide bore was measured at .450/.450, with 7″ bell flare. According to Yorkloyalist.com, the horn matches the description for the model 84: Professional, medium bore, manufactured between 1905-1926, 7inch bell, standard model. This horn has a friction fit connection (too early for a slide lock) and distinctive original bronze stockings of the period. There are slight dings and pings throughout and pitting at the grips. The slide action is very good, especially for the age of the instrument. The stockings are good with good compression. You can see some mild wear-through of the silver-plate on the grips, but not too bad. The horn comes with a used case in pretty good shape overall with good latches, but has some inner damage and used mouthpiece (may not be the one pictured). I think a buyer could easily repair the inner damage and it holds the horn actually pretty well. The instrument is not lacquered; therefore, it may have to be polished periodically (we recommend using Weiman METAL Polish). This is a beautiful all silver horn and is a very bright player, quite smooth, with good power and response and good intonation. It can be played for all kinds of styles and especially suitable for jazz. Thanks for looking and check out our other items!
